Biotechnology Advocacy and Dialogue

Sustaining Canada's biotech industry to allow Canada to realize its benefits requires integrated public policy at all levels of government. BIOTECanada and its membership dedicate themselves to informing Canadian decision-makers of the value and potential the industry offers.

Working in partnership with regional organisations and partners, BIOTECanada leads an ongoing dialogue between the various groups our technology affects to create science-based policy and better awareness of biotechnology.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT IN DIFFICULT TIMES

Seventy percent of Canada's emerging biotechnology companies are down to twelve months of operating cash. With financial markets closed, firms urgently need bridging capital to survive. BIOTECanada is working with the federal government on a loan proposal to help bridge them through this difficult financial cycle.

BIOTECanada has been working on an economic stimulus package for the biotechnology sector to provide short term assistance to firms, while positioning Canada for long term economic advantage. Learn more by reading BIOTECanada's Economic Stimulus Brief  here.

• Maintain a science-based regulatory regime that will enable discovery, commercialization and market introduction of biotechnology products and processes.
• Ensure adequate IP protection for Canadian innovators.
• Facilitate access to capital for emerging firms.
