Yves Rosconi - 2011 Industry Leadership
A highly accomplished leader, Mr. Rosconi has more than 30 years
experience in the pharmaceutical industry in Canada and internationally.
Equally comfortable in small and large organizations, his experience
covers the full gamut of activities in the biotechnology industry – drug
development, product licensing, market access management, government
relations, and sales and marketing – as well as providing direction and
strategic planning.During his years at Theratechnologies, Mr. Rosconi made it his mission to complete the various stages of the clinical trials for tesamoreline, as well as the regulatory process in the United States for acceptance. He also played an important role in the conclusion of a partnership for the exclusive rights for the commercialization of tesamoreline in the U.S.
Mr. Rosconi’s contribution to the biotechnology industry is not limited to his achievements at Theratechnologies. He has given his expertise and strategic planning skills to help BioQuebec thrive as an organization and was elected President of the Board of Directors for more than two years. He was also on the Board of BIOTECanada, Rx&D and Montreal InVivo, and on the boards of the following companies: Ulysses Pharmaceuticals, Minstal Pharma, Milestone Pharma, Cardio Metabolics and Otsuka Canada Pharmaceutical.

Dr. Murray McLaughlin - 2010 Industry Leadership
Dr. Murray McLaughlin is well-known throughout the sector. Throughout his career, Dr. McLaughlin has been a tireless promoter and supporter of Canada’s biotechnology sector. He has been a member of most of Canada’s main funding agencies, associations, and companies in industrial and health biotechnology - agricultural, from Canada’s East Dr. McLaughlin is the founding President and CEO of the new Sustainable Chemistry Alliance (SCA), a Centres of Excellence for Commercialisation and Research organization that encourages and supports innovation in sustainable solutions to climate change, peak oil, recycling, energy security, safe water and scarce natural resources. Dr. McLaughlin, in conjunction of University of Western Ontario established the SCA in 2009 as an investment vehicle for new sustainable chemistry business opportunities as part of the Bioindustrial Innovation Centre in Sarnia.Dr. McLaughlin also currently manages McLaughlin Consultants Inc., providing marketing, financing and strategic advice to firms in the agriculture, agri-food and life sciences sectors. Prior to establishing the SCA, Murray spent three years as the Director of Business Development for Canadian Light Source, a global leader and recognized centre of excellence in synchrotron science. In 1996, Dr. McLaughlin received the Canadian Agri-Marketer of the Year award and in 2000, the National Merit award from the Ottawa Life Science Council. Dr. McLaughlin obtained a diploma in agriculture from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, and from there went on to obtain a B.Sc. from McGill University, and a M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Cornell University. He received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Dalhousie University/NSAC in 2006.
Natalie Dakers - 2009 Industry Leadership
Over the past 19 years Ms. Natalie Dakers has been one of Canada’s most consistent and prominent leaders in the life sciences community. Today, Ms. Dakers is the Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Drug Research and Development, an organization that guides and supports early-stage drug development from Canada’s top academic and health research institutions to increase the successful commercialization of new therapeutics. CDRD also provides a unique platform to train young scientists and dramatically strengthen Canada’s life sciences community. To date, CDRD has raised over $70 million from both government and industry partners, and has put in place the personnel, business and laboratory infrastructures required to advance this uniquely Canadian endeavour towards success.Previously, Ms. Dakers was President & CEO of Neuromed Pharmaceuticals Inc., a private biopharmaceutical company developping new and improved pain medicines. As co-founder and CEO, Ms. Dakers built the company from inception and raised three rounds of venture financing totaling approximately $70 million. Her fundamental leadership efforts creating Neuromed’s drug development platform ultimately led to one of the largest licensing deals in Canadian biotech history - $475 million with Merck & Co.
Ms. Dakers has long taken a leading role as a volunteer. She is Past Chair of LifeSciences British Columbia, a board member of the Canada Foundation for Innovation, Genome BC, Genome Canada and the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research. Ms. Dakers is also an Adjunct Professor in UBC’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and a member of the Council of Canadian Academies’ Expert Panel on Business Innovation. Ms. Dakers was the recipient of a 2004 Peak Award for Performance and Excellence.
