SUMMARY:GlycoNet - GTA Webinar with Dr. Eric Brown: Starving Bacteria to Find New Antibodies
DESCRIPTION:Description \n\nIn this webinar\, Dr. Eric Brown\, professor at McMaster University and GlycoNet Integrated Services (GIS) node leader\, will discuss how screening compound libraries in minimal media can uncover new antibacterial leads\, particularly in drug-resistant Gram-negative pathogens. His talk will highlight chemical and genomic platforms used to study bacterial nutrient metabolism\, including work targeting biotin synthesis. Dr. Brown will also introduce the High-Throughput Screening (HTS) GIS node at McMaster University\, which supports this type of discovery research through custom assay development\, automated compound screening\, advanced data analysis\, and machine learning–enabled hit identification. Drawing on Canada’s largest academic compound collection and integrated robotic and imaging systems\, the platform enables efficient screening and follow-up testing to help identify and validate compounds with potential for new antibacterial therapies.
