The federal government’s AI for All strategy is an important signal that Canada sees health and life sciences as a place where AI can drive both positive health outcomes and economic growth. To fully realize that opportunity, Canada must ensure AI-enabled life sciences innovation can be developed, protected, scaled, and commercialized here.
Life sciences is where research is translated into new medicines, vaccines, diagnostics, cell and gene therapies, and advanced treatments that improve health and deliver better outcomes for patients. It is also a strategic economic sector, creating companies, jobs, investment, and innovations that strengthen Canada’s health security and competitiveness.
BIOTECanada has actively advocated for life sciences to be recognized as a priority for AI, reflecting the work already underway across our membership to develop and apply AI across the life sciences continuum, from discovery and clinical development to commercialization.
Canada has the science, talent, data, and companies to lead at the intersection of AI and life sciences. The next step is continued collaboration between government and industry to ensure these commitments translate into stronger Canadian companies, better health outcomes, and lasting Canadian leadership in AI-enabled life sciences.
