BIOTECanada welcomes the federal government’s commitment to ongoing $500 million annual funding for the National Strategy for Drugs for Rare Diseases and to continued collaboration with provincial and territorial partners.
Phase I established an important foundation, demonstrating collaboration between federal, provincial and territorial partners to address the needs of rare disease patients across Canada.
That foundation matters as the science continues to move forward. Our members are helping drive that progress, with Canadian biotechnology innovators continuing to advance transformative treatments to address significant unmet medical needs.
The next phase must focus on translating this foundation into sustained, timely and equitable access to existing and new medicines that address the needs of patients and their families, regardless of where they live.
Continued federal leadership and collaboration across jurisdictions will be important to carrying this work forward and ensuring patients can benefit from the treatments being developed.
